You just got engaged? Congratulations! And you want to get married WHEN? June? Well, believe it or not and no matter what people say, it’s still possible to plan a wedding on short notice.
Now you might have to compromise on a few things like location, etc, but if you are willing to keep an open mind you can have a beautiful wedding that will offer memories that make you smile forever!
The first thing to do is to pick a date! Everything revolves around the date. Of course the second is the venue and if your venue is important, you’ll need to do both of these things at once. If you choose to get married during the afternoon (or even morning) you’ll have a better chance of getting the venue you want on short notice. If you can’t? Then be innovative. There are many beautiful weddings done in the garden’s of friends, or by the lake, etc. Try to think outside the box!
Reception entertainment is also easier if you choose an afternoon wedding. Since many companies are booked months in advance for evening weddings, afternoons are often lower priced too.
Start looking for your dress right away since you aren’t going to have time to wait for most orders. But you can still find a beautiful dress. Set up appointments right away with local shops and see what they offer. They’ll be able to help you find something right away. Many brides choose to wear a dress that belongs to a family member. A bride wearing a dress that her grandmother wore years ago can bring tears when she walks down the aisle. If this is a possibility, then it’s definitely something you might want to consider.
Invitations need to go out 6 weeks or so before the wedding so you need to get them printed right away. In many cases your local printer can handle this and get the invitations to you quickly. While you’re waiting for the printing, finish up your guest list so you’ll be ready to send the invitations as soon as they arrive.
One very important item is photography. You want to make sure your wedding is captured forever and this is one item that’s best not left to an amateur. However, be resourceful. Call local photographers, advertise on Craigslist and ask friends to find someone that can handle your wedding with the skills you need. Make sure to ask for references and lots of work samples before making your choice.
Probably the best way to plan a wedding in a short time is to hire a wedding planner. A good wedding planner will already have the contacts in place to help you find what you need on short notice. They can suggest unique venue’s that you might not think of on your own and many times, they’ll know someone new who’s trying to break into the industry that will be just perfect for your plans.
